Gingerbread Houses
Recipe by Wendy Ali-Akil, Stir The Pot
Ingredients
- 125g butter
- 120g caster sugar
- 2 cups plain flour
- 2 tsps. ground ginger
- 1 egg yolk (reserve white for icing)
- 80g honey
- 1 tsp bicarbonate soda
- 2 cups icing sugar
- Printable gingerbread house template
Method
- Mix butter and sugar together until light and creamy. Add yolk and honey, and mix. Add flour, bicarbonate soda and ginger, and mix until combined.
- Wrap dough in clingwrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out on lightly floured board and, using the printed template, cut the house pieces.
- Bake at 180°C for 8-10 minutes. Leave to cool on oven trays until pieces are firm.
- Secure the pieces of your house together with icing made from egg white and icing sugar.
- Decorate with lollies and Christmas cheer. Enjoy!
