We’re all about footy-snacks at the moment because we’ve got some serious finals fever! We took a stroll around the Market to grab some inspiration for you and help you ‘up’ your footy-snacks game. Read on friends.
To Cook
Make a bee-line for Bracher Arcade where you’ll find all of our meat, poultry and seafood. J&L Quality Meats has some mighty looking beef shashliks at the moment – these are going to be popular. The J&L team put them together in-house using beautiful grass fed, hormone free and free range beef and a special marinade, all ready for you to grill-up and go.
Don’t go past the range of chicken drummettes at D&J Poultry – made from free-range chicken, you have the choice of Honey Soy or Peri-Peri marinade. Aside from being tasty they also are quick and easy to prepare – just grill or oven bake.
For something in the seafood department, why not try the salmon fish cakes made by Ting and the team at Periwinkles, we can see these with a nice salad or pick yourself up some light and fluffy bread rolls from Noisette, add a little mayo, some tomato and a little lettuce for crunch. Lovely! And who needs fries when you can grab yourself some oysters on the side.
Or Not To Cook
If half-time cooking seems a bit of a chore why not try some of these ready-to-go goodies. (Tip: order ahead if you are looking for certain numbers).
Don’t go past the oh-so-moreish cheesy croquettes at Cleos Deli – made in-house and they are just brilliant heated in the oven as a finger food dipped in relish or sauce.
Stir The Pot has all the footy fare you could want in-store right now, from party-sized favourites (pies, sausage rolls, spinach and ricotta rolls, assorted quiches, all available in GF) to Pie Thief specialty pies (steak and cheese, Thai chicken, creamy mushroom and vegan spaghetti bolognese). Stir the Pot’s chicken and leek, and beef burgundy pies are also available in regular pastry or gluten free. They’ve even got sweet tooths covered, with jam, nutella and custard donuts and take-home packs filled with scones, jam and cream.
Sweet Greek have their super tasty house-made, bite-sized Tiropita and Spanakopita in all their feta-and-filo-y deliciousness and you can grab delicious ready-made salads here too, all made from produce from Prahran Market.
Continuing on the pie theme, what about a selection of pastries from Barossa Fine Foods? We’re talking pie-heaven here people, from quiche to sausage rolls and pies, chunky delicious fillings from vegetarian to meat, all made in Victoria using quality ingredients. Nobody would blame you for grabbing a quick Kransky on the side either.
If you want to opt for a healthy version of the humble pie without scarifying the delicious filling, Miss Amelie’s Gourmet Pies offer’s take-home packs of their award-winning pie fillings (they also do take-home packs of their pastry-encrusted pies – go on, treat yourself).
Finally, of course, there are all the dips and deli meats, olives and cheese you can think of in our Deli Arcade. Lots of good deals on dip multi-packs at the moment, so you can grab a few tubs for the table. Make sure you check out Chasos Gourmet Deli for the most delicious mountains of goodness for a charcuterie board, from dolmades to stuffed olives and cabbage rolls. Actually, we can’t take our eyes off the mountain of white anchovies (if you haven’t tried them, get on those, stat).
We hope this list makes your footy snacks shopping a little easier.
