Blanching tomatoes the easy way
These simple steps are perfect for those recipes that require blanching tomatoes and also deseeding them.
- Take off the tomato’s stalk by twisting it a few times.
- Remove the core using a sharp knife
- Cut an ‘X’ shape into the base of the tomato with a knife
- Using a fork, put the tomato into boiling water until the skin starts to blister.
- Immediately remove and submerge into iced water to cool.
- Peel off the skin
- Cut in half horizontally
- Using a teaspoon, take out the seeds one section at a time
- Done!
If you just need your tomatoes with the skin off, simply follow steps 1 to 6.
Or, if you have a recipe that calls for tomatoes to just be de-seeded, simply follow steps 7 and 8!
